The Problem

When NBA champion Danny Green launched the inaugural Battle in the Apple event to showcase overlooked NYC prep basketball talent, he lacked the digital marketing expertise to build the event's online presence and brand.

With no existing social media channels or brand assets, Danny needed a strategic partner to establish The Battle's digital ecosystem and grow its cultural clout.

The Idea

Danny brought on Legacy as digital architects for The Battle but also relied on our operational help to launch the first event.

We saw massive potential in using compelling content and strategic influencer marketing to reengage the basketball world with NYC's talent. Our goal was making The Battle a digital destination at the intersection of sports and youth culture.

What We Did

Our team provided operational support to help get the inaugural Battle off the ground. But more critically, we built The Battle’s entire digital presence from scratch.

In its first year we established several impactful media partnerships and a social media blitz which landed @thebattleofficial an official blue check on both Instagram and Twitter. These media partnerships allowed us to strategically align ourselves with the most trusted brands in sports media: Ball is Life, SLAM, and Bleacher Report.

Our team spearheaded an innovative approach to digital content creation, working closely with skilled videographers and photographers to capture the most compelling moments from "The Battle" Basketball Showcase. We challenged our creative professionals to think outside the box and produce visually stunning and emotionally resonant content that would stand out in the digital landscape.

Once we had the captivating content in hand, we strategically distributed it through our digital channels as a priority. This allowed us to control the narrative and be the first to showcase the most exciting highlights, game-winning shots, and memorable performances. Through careful curation and timely releases, we aimed to build anticipation and generate buzz around "The Battle" Basketball Showcase.

To maximize the reach and impact of our digital content, we implemented targeted social media campaigns and engaged with key influencers and basketball enthusiasts. We leveraged platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube to share the content and engage with fans, encouraging them to interact, share, and spread the word about "The Battle" Basketball Showcase. By fostering a sense of community and actively involving the audience, we aimed to create a viral effect and amplify the event's exposure.

The Results

Our strategic approach to digital brand building yielded exceptional results. Within a span of less than four years, we successfully grew the @thebattleofficial social media account from a standing start to an impressive 40K followers. This growth in the online community allowed us to establish a strong foundation for expanding the event's reach and engaging a wider audience.

The brand that we have built for The Battle has allowed the brand to become the talk of gen-z basketball players. Players, coaches, schools, and AAU programs are now eager to play in The Battle due to the high vitality of our content and exposure that the players will get.

In 2022, we successfully co-branded four events with the James family, leveraging their influential status to reach an even larger audience. These collaborations resulted in an impressive reach of 5.2 million accounts and engaged 300K accounts from April to July.

By expanding the event's digital reach and engaging the target audience, we successfully generated significant interest and excitement for the event. The heightened exposure not only attracted a larger audience to the event but also positioned it as a premier basketball showcase on a national scale. Our strategic digital initiatives played a vital role in expanding the event's recognition and creating a platform for talented players and coaches to receive the national attention they deserved.
