The brief

The webcam was a category nobody had looked at in a decade. Opal had built something that deserved looking at. The engineering was not the problem. Attention was.

Legacy shaped the go-to-market and positioned Opal at the intersection of deep tech and cultural relevance, rather than as another accessory launch. The campaign ran in three phases — tease, launch, sustain — social-first, and built around people who already had communities rather than people with follower counts.

The part that mattered most was who ended up on the cap table. That orchestrated momentum is what carried Opal into its next round — and the Series B was led by OpenAI. Hardware for all OpenAI tools.
